“What makes your heart sing?” & your Life Ecosystem

“What if music could be injected into the experience in a way that would soften peoples’ hearts…. that would shift their capacity to meet the moment, rather than with denial and fear, but with empathy and acceptance and interconnectedness.”
                         Gary Malkin, Emmy-Winning composer

In yet another example of “Life is a mystery to be lived….”, I received a video from Bruce Cryer, CEO of HeartMath, a great guy who I met in the late 90’s.

The video, which you can see below, is  titled “What Makes Your Heart Sing” and features the work he is doing  his childhood friend, Emmy-Winning composer Gary Malkin.

I say it’s an example of “Life is a mystery to be lived…” because lately I’ve been exploring shifting much of my creative focus to an area that has fascinated me for years on a personal level.

How Do  You Create a Life Ecosystem That Meets Your Unique Needs and Allows You to Flourish?

“How do you create a life ecosystem that supports your unique way of being in the world, so that you are able to bring your gifts to the world, and live with greater joy and meaningfulness? How do you create a life ecosystem that so feeds you physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually that you of course bring compassion, kindness, spaciousness, and generosity to your relationships? How do you create  a deeply nourishing life ecosystem out of which naturally comes creative and innovative inspiration?”

A cousin of this question, since much of my work is done in the workplace, relates to the organizational ecosystem:

“How do we create organizational ecosystems that enable people to flourish, so they bring their best selves to work?”

There were two reasons why I loved the videos, besides the artistry and entertainment value.

Watch What Happens When People Listen to What Makes Their Heart Sing

First, both men are visible models of what happens when you listen to, and bring forth, what makes your heart sing. Since I know Bruce, it was especially heartwarming to hear his story of returning to something that filled him with so much joy as a young person…and how it took a near death experience to reconnect him with what made his heart sing.

What Might YOUR Life Be Like, If You Created an Optimal Life Ecosystem?

Second, the video offers you a hint at what could happen in your life—and in your organization—if you created an environment, and ecosystem out of which naturally flowed love, creativity, and a desire to serve.

In the video, Gary says this about his and Bruce’s exploration of music:

“What if music could be injected into the experience in a way that would soften peoples’ hearts…. that would shift their capacity to meet the moment….rather than with denial and fear….but with empathy and acceptance and interconnectedness.”

I would like to paraphrase that wonderful line:

“What if we created a life ecosystem and workplace ecosystems that would soften peoples’ hearts…. that would shift their capacity to meet the moment….rather than with denial and fear….but with empathy and acceptance and interconnectedness.”

In future posts, we’ll explore how to do that.

In the meantime, I recommend you watch the video.

Here is the 11 ½ minute version.

If you want the 4 1/2 minute version, click here …but I recommend the longer one…you’ll get more good stuff…
